Strong Sunlight and Snow

Strong sunlight, snow and air temperature well below freezing helped to create this scene.

Salt vs Snow

Snow eventually gives in to salt and can create strange 3D patterns.

Tumbledown Outbuilding

It is not unusual to see a farm in New York State that has seen better days. The white house behind still appears to be in working order.

North Branch Wiscoy Creek

Early on in the day the bushes and trees can be covered in a light frost.
Perhaps appropriately these images were captured in a place named Bliss.

For a short time the sun can raise moisture from rivers and lakes which then condenses to look like steam. Since the air temperature is still well below freezing stripping off for a dip in what looks like a hot tub does not occur to many.

Cartwright's Maple Tree Inn

Located near Angelica, Cartwright's is a bit like a US version of Betty's Tea Rooms based around the pancake. Order a couple of pancakes and when you finish them the waitresss arrives with a batch more. It can get busy but the queueing time will be worth it.

Niagara Falls View to Imax Theatre

The odd hue is due to spray from the falls which quickly freezes as ice.

Fluid Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls has not quite frozen.

Niagara Falls Photo

The Falls was rumoured to have frozen....
This chap was checking it out.

Stunt Bikes

The stunt bikes were heavily modified with extra calipers and low gearing. The blue one appeared to be a Triumph.

No Handed Wheelie

With all the crash bars fitted it seems reasonable to assume that this is not the first attempt.

Stunt Bikes

The Toronto Bike Show included some stunt bike.
One handed stoppies and burnouts while sitting on the tank were part of it.

Canadian Bike Cops Fallen Bike

The Canadian Bike Cops helpfully showed how to pick up a distressed H-D.

Canadian Motorbike Cops

The Canadian Motorbike Cops put on a show at the Toronto Bike Show.
The close riding a full lock round cones was good.

Deer Shelter

This is where deer hang out.

Deer Track

Deer seem to travel in single file in deep snow.

Holiday Valley Resort

The resort buildings are suitably alpine with the usual mix of wood panelling, hot drinks, food and very clean conveniences.

Yet again French is used for naming. Of course Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, who was used to name cars, is the finest example so far.

Holiday Valley Skiing

Note the racing tuck.

Skiing at Holiday Valley

Holiday Valley, is located in Ellicotteville. The hills are gentle with the occasional vertical drop. All the lifts are chairs.

Illuminated by Moonlight

Early in the morning the place can be illuminated by moonlight. Perhaps a little spooky but despite the recent increase in vampire and supernatural based TV drama real ghouls remain rare.

Deer Tracks

The deer are still alive and hiding in the snow somewhere.

Snow Covered Bison

The bison at Buffalo Zoo seem to stay out.
This partly made up for zebra no show. A snow covered zebra would be fun to see. Even the hyena seemed to prefer staying in to doing circuits with those eyes that scream "Are you lookin' at my bird? / Did you spill my pint?".
